Peach Tree Surgery

Okay, so one of our peach trees split right down the middle all the way to the ground.
The thing was over laden with gorgeous big red peaches (Red Haven) and we hadn't taken enough off or supported the limbs enough.
So we pulled the tree back up, no easy feat, and strapped it all together and to the 6' fence posts.
Then we drilled two holes through the trunk (abt. 4" caliper) and put bolts through to hold the trunk together.
We left the strapping in place for support until those peaches come off, which should be very soon.
Hopefully the tree will grow together somewhat and even grow around the bolts and seal up.
If it doesn't work then we'll just have to replace the tree. UGH! Four big trees and one baby. :-(
